Welcome to the Musings of the
Andreas
Recently I received an invitation to receive a credit card that was "pre-approved" and with an "$" dollar limit. There was the free gift attached and I was intrigued by the offer so I applied.
Of course I received the card but what was interesting was that the dollar limit was twice the amount that was advertised. My thoughts went in two directions. The first was "I now can get myself in debt twice as fast". "Interesting" I thought when I heard myself say this.
Believing in the "Law of Attraction" and the the principles of the movie "The Secret" I quickly decided to have another thought. The first was that I had attracted the greater limit to create greater opportunity in my life somewhere down the road.
The second was that it was my opportunity to look at what I was attracting into my life when I chose to think about the debt aspect rather than the gathering of the points that come with the card.
So, where would your thoughts take you in this situation. Feel free to share.
To your success,

In his book "Secrets of the Millionaire Mind" T.
Harv. Ecker describes the difference in thinking between
rich people and those that do no have financial wealth.
In fact he highlights seventeen what he calls "Wealth Files" that separate the wealthy from the people
that are less wealthy. Here is one of them.
Rich People
are willing to promote themselves and their value.
Poor People
think negatively about selling and promotion
Which one of these do you believe? Hmmm...it is to

How to Trigger a Yes Decision from Anyone
by Russell Granger
You can have anything you want, yes, anything! All you have to do is to persuade someone to decide to do what you want. The most successful people in the world are those who can get things done with and through others. By applying new scientific breakthroughs, it's now quick and easy to get "Yes!" decisions and actions.
Before persuading others to say "Yes!" let's take a quick look at our own decision process. Only when we understand how the brain makes decisions can we successfully influence others' decisions.
Life's Challenges
Let's face it, life is a challenge. From the minute our eyes pop open in the morning until they close exhausted at night we deal with an avalanche of decisions. Get out of bed now or snooze? What to wear? What for breakfast - stick to the diet or enjoy? Which route to work? Stop for gas now or on the way home? Listen to the news or a CD? Which CD?
At work it's the same. Get that report out first or answer the emails and voicemail? Take a call or let voicemail pick up? What are the boss's priorities? What are yours? Whose do you execute first?
All day long, requests and decisions drive activities. The need to decide is incessant; the issues never stop, never let up.
Dealing with this many decisions sounds difficult. It could be. If we had to use logic reason and cognitive thinking, if we had to rationally evaluate and think through each decision, we'd be trapped, locked in place, unable to move in any direction as we analyze, evaluate, contemplate, measure, and critique options. We'd wind up dazed and immobile. We'd go nuts!
Nature's Triggers to the Rescue
Fortunately, nature, our emotion based limbic system, has provided us with a highly effective, simple solution to enable us to easily get through each decision-making opportunity. That solution is our "internal navigation system" referred to in the book and PBS series "The Secret Life of the Brain." This system resides in our brain's emotional center and is activated by our personal databank of emotion based internal triggers. The take away summary from the breakthrough live brain research is this:
"We are not thinking machines. We are feeling machines that think"
What is a trigger? What is this powerful internal navigation tool that initiates automatic, quick, easy decisions? A trigger is an emotion based gut-feeling shortcut that helps us avoid the pain of rational thinking, of laborious cognitive mental evaluation. We are pre-programmed to comply with other's requests when the request activates the appropriate triggers.
The secret for persuasion success is to which triggers can be activated for each situation. The weird irony of this need for quick, easy emotion based triggers is that the more sophisticated and complex our lives get, the more information we have, the more we need and rely on simple ways to help us make decisions. The smart manager, leader, sales rep understands this need and prepares her requests accordingly.
The exciting new science of live brain imaging documents that one emotion based brain element, the amygdala, receives most outside stimulus, requests for decisions. The amygdala has two choices. It can make an immediate emotion based decision tapping into the life long database we build. Or, if no prior emotion is triggered it can send the request to the pre-frontal cortex for lengthy, rational, time consuming cognitive evaluation. Here's a newly discovered scientific fact: Reason and logic do not persuade. They might back up an emotional decision, but they do not heavily influence the decision.
To get what you want through others you must activate their emotion based triggers.
How Do You Activate an Emotional Trigger?
One of the 7 primary emotional triggers is the Authority Trigger. When we perceive someone is an authority, we usually act on their requests. What do you do when your doctor, the "authority," gives you a prescription? Do you search the Internet and research the chemical compounds? Do you check the FDA website to evaluate the documentation for safety and efficacy? No, you get the prescription filled. The doctor's authority triggered you to make a quick automatic decision.
How about your accountant, the financial "authority"? When he says, "file this way," do you examine the 16,000 page tax code for logic and reason, or do you follow his advice? Again the authority trigger motivates a quick, non-thinking automatic decision.
How do you persuade with the authority emotional trigger? Be the authority! Know your stuff. Do your homework. We give unthinking automatic compliance to those who have done the hard digging for us. Show the other person you are fully informed about your subject & that you can be trusted to give expert information. Create the right impression and the other person's amygdale will perceive less risk, feel more assurance, & trust. You'll get the decision you want.
Each of the triggers can be activated to produce easy, automatic decisions & actions. In the most simplistic form these triggers are:
- The Friendship Trigger
- Activates trust and agreement through bonding
- The Authority Trigger
- Activates acceptance through expertise
- The Consistency Trigger
- Motivates consistency with past actions
- The Reciprocity Trigger
- The Contrast Trigger
- Structures contrasts to make one approach better than another
- The Reason Why Trigger
- Emotional reasons to make decisions and actions
- The Hope Trigger
- Instills positive expectations that persuade agreement
- Activate a combination of these triggers and you will get anything you want.
2,500 years ago Aristotle wrote, "The best route to persuasion is with reason and logic." It took science 2,500 years to learn he was wrong. The brain just doesn't work that way. We finally know how the brain really works in the decision process. Your simple approach: Work with the brain rather than against it. Activate the brain's emotional triggers and achieve the results you seek.

Q. Where are we headed in the Canadian Economy?
A. This is always a tough question which is why we have experts such as those in the article that follows. However here are some of my thoughts. The first is that we represent less than 10% of the Canada/ US population and export anywhere between 80% and 90% of what we make to the U.S.
I always say they are the dog and we are the tail and generally speaking we move in the same direction as they do. Therefore expect some sort of a slowdown. Maybe not as severe as the one they are having but we will feel the affects.
To some degree they are in the position we were in in the 1980's. High government spending and debt, falling currency and lack of consumer confidence. Hopefully they can follow Canada's example and turn their financial fortunes around.
Until then fasten your seatbelts, just in case.

Economic Update
Commodities boom goes bust
Raw materials such as crude oil and gasoline have tumbled from record highs in the past month.
Loonie shot down by plunging prices for oil, metals, as concerns mount about slowing world demand
Aug 06, 2008
Lisa Wright
Business Reporter, Toronto Star
Canada's dollar fell to its lowest level in nearly a year and the Toronto Stock Exchange tumbled along with it yesterday amid a major sell-off of resource stocks and commodities - from crude oil to cocoa and copper - prompting some analysts to officially declare the end of the red hot commodity rally.
"Our general sense is the commodities boom is over," said Sal Guatieri, senior economist at the Bank of Montreal. "The global economy is downshifting pretty quickly, and it's not an environment that is conducive to gains in commodities. We've seen a pretty big pullback in commodities since the start of July," he said.
The Reuters/Jefferies CRB Index of 19 commodities slid 10 per cent in July - the most in any month since March 1980, when the U.S. economy fell into a recession. A worsening global growth outlook and prospects for increased supply sent raw materials such as crude oil, soybeans and gasoline tumbling from record highs in the past month.
Commodities account for about half of Canada's exports, with the U.S. its biggest trading partner. The loonie suffered as the U.S. dollar strengthened yesterday after the U.S. Federal Reserve Board left interest rates unchanged, as was widely expected.
The Canadian dollar closed 1.38 cents lower yesterday to 95.98 cents (U.S.) after falling as low as 95.68 earlier in the day, its lowest level since last September.
The Toronto Stock Exchange closed down 254.33 points to 13,242.20 after plummeting nearly 300 points earlier in the day after the Fed announced its decision.
Motivating both the market's tumble and the decline of the dollar were plummeting oil prices, which fell to their lowest level in weeks. The light, sweet crude contract was down $2.24 to close at $119.17 (U.S.) on the New York Mercantile Exchange. The price of oil is down 19 per cent from its record high of $147 set July 11.
"We've seen the price of oil increase six fold in the last six years. That's quite a run but it's not sustainable because you're now seeing demand destruction," explained Guatieri, referring to some people driving less and seeking transportation alternatives.
"Our sense is that most commodities have run their course and will be selling at lower levels this year," he added. Commodities are "at the beginning of a long-term bear market" after rallying the past seven years, agrees Michael Aronstein, chief investment strategist at Oscar Gruss & Son Inc. in New York.
Markets jittery about global demand prospects and increasing supply pushed construction metal copper to a six-month low yesterday and zinc to its lowest level in 2 1/2 years.
China's home-appliances makers, the world's largest exporters of the products, are cutting purchases of copper as shipments of air conditioners and refrigerators slow, Jiangxi Copper Co. said.
The country is the world's biggest user of copper, which tumbled 4 per cent yesterday on increasing speculation that cooling global expansion will reduce demand.
Gold fell below $900 (U.S.) an ounce for the first time since June, following a hot streak earlier this year that sent it soaring to more than $1,000 an ounce.
The U.S. dollar's rebound and plunging oil prices reduced the appeal of the precious metal as a hedge against inflation.
Yesterday, bullion closed in New York at $878.60, off $21.50. Platinum and silver also declined."It's not pretty out there," said metals analyst Barry Allan of Research Capital Corp.
He noted that August is typically a weak month for the industry, but it has turned out to be weaker than anticipated due to the added impact of the softening global economy and continued high energy prices, which are being passed on to consumers.
"People are definitely in a cautious mode, and no doubt there is concern going around the market. But this is typically a period of doldrums" for resources, Allan said, adding he thinks things will bounce back in the fall.
Aron Gampel, deputy chief economist at Scotiabank, said he also doesn't think it's the death knell for commodities quite yet, noting that recent price gains simply couldn't be sustained in this economy.
"Clearly, the bellwether here is the U.S. economy and its impact around the world. There are signs the global economy has shifted into a lower gear and that's affecting commodity prices, but I still don't think we've seen the bottom for them," he said. "The sky is falling at the moment, and prices have come down for commodities, but they're nowhere near panic levels," Gampel added.

The Four Pillars of My Life
1) THOUGHTS ARE THINGS
We are our thoughts. We are what we believe we are. Isn't the mere thought of these two statements scary? Read them several times. These two phrases can be either very
positive or very negative. If we believe we are okay, that life is good, that we are all that we can be, that we are healthy, that we are successful, then we are. If we believe that life sucks, that life is not worth living, that people are bad, that good things never happen to me, that life is hard, then this is our truth. Ponder this. This leads us to the
next pillar.
2) YOU HAVE CHOICE
Whether we recognize it or not, we have choice. What is choice? Choice is the ability to select from a list of alternatives. You always have a choice because there are always alternatives no matter what the situation or problem is. We have a choice with regards to our circumstances, yet some of us choose not to recognise that we have choice. It is easier to play the "poor me" or "victim" card than the "ace of spades" the card that allows you to become who you truly wish to become, once you have applied this pillar called choice to your advantage. Choice looks like saying "this is my circumstance today, and only today, I will choose anew today to make tomorrow look different". Yes, you do need a plan and an attitude change to do this, however the first step is in the act of "choosing" to choose.
3) EVERY DAY IS A NEW DAY
This pillar is about letting go and not sweating the small stuff. Every day indeed is a new day. A new opportunity to have life be different, to smell the roses, and to have life be all that it can be. Do not bring yesterdays problems into today. As an issue comes up into your life handle that issue, do not let it fester and ultimately become something bigger than what it started out to be. Every day when you wake up start by saying, "this is a new day, I love life and I love all that it stands for, life is good".
4) LIFE IS GOOD!
I personally love life. Yes there are better days and not so good days, however one cannot expect, during a lifetime of living, not to have some of each. Life is balance. A balance of all things that life has to offer. There are many opportunities within that one lifetime. Do not be afraid to venture forth and seek out and discover what life is all about for you. After all, you can be blown away by a tornado while sitting in the secure comfort of your home. There are no money back guarantees to life. The choices you make cannot be judged to be right or wrong, they are just choices. Know that at any time that you can choose anew to
adjust any previously made decisions.
